The hardest part about losing Rodney wasn’t just losing my husband.
It was losing the life we were building.
It was watching people I thought would always be there slowly disappear.
It was learning that some people will smile to your face while talking about you behind your back. It was realizing that even some family relationships don’t survive tragedy.
While everyone else kept living their lives, I was trying to figure out how to survive mine.
People expected me to go back to work. To laugh again. To function. To be “okay.”
What they didn’t see were the panic attacks, the trauma, the nights I couldn’t sleep, the moments I questioned who I even was anymore.
Two years later, I’m still carrying what happened that day.
I’m still trying to rebuild a life I never asked for.
And the loneliest part?
The people you think will stand beside you after unimaginable loss often become the very people who teach you what being alone really feels like.
If you’ve walked this road too, I’m so sorry. No one should have to carry this kind of grief by themselves.
